Submissions Returned by Crux

Aulay Leod - new device submission

Consulting Heralds - Wilfrid de Ackelonde and Giles Leabrook

Gules, a winged human skeleton argent

Name Registered September 2003 via Lochac.

This submission has been returned for being in violation of RfS VIII.4, Obtrusive Modernity. Submitter is advised to include supporting documentation or rework the design.

Daffyd Wallraven - new badge submission

Consulting Herald - Tovye Woolmongre

Purpure, a skull and fret in pale argent.

This device is in conflict with Valentine Christian Warner, Purpure, a skull argent wearing a foolscap per pale ermine and Or , Registered September 1988 via Middle Kingdom.

This design also feels really disjointed, a more cohesive option should be explored.

Edmund Ale-conner - new device submission

Consulting Herald - Karl Faustus von Aachen

Checky vert and argent, on a pale azure a bear rampant argent.

This device is being returned for a redraw, (appears free of conflict at this time).

  • the pale is drawn too wide
  • the bear will need to be elongated to use the pale space better
  • the checky should start from the top of the field

Eleyne de Comnocke - device change

Consulting Herald - Eleyne de Comnocke

Purpure, a saltire and on a chief argent, three roses purpure

This beautiful device is being returned for a redraw (appears free of conflict). Currently it violates RfVII7.a - Identification requirement. The purple on the colour copies render the roses unidentifiable. Even at short distance, they appear as 'blobs' and no longer roses. Submitter has been requested to pick out detail in white or consider seeding and leaving the roses.

Katherine Kerr of the Hermitage - new name and device submission

Quarterly per pale embattled argent and sable, two hounds head couped close sable and two towers argent.

This submission was pended at the March meeting for lack of documentation, and is now being returned for -

. lack of supporting documentation;

. probable conflict with famous mundane author Katharine Kerr;

. and being of incompatible with period content.

This device was only briefly discussed, and appears free of conflict.

Rodri Ysoglaig - new device submission

Consulting Herald - Karl Faustus von Aachen

Per pale, purpure and Or, an open scroll fesswise argent and a chief embattled sable. This device has been returned for a redraw (appears free of conflict at this time). Currently it violates RfS VII7.a - Identification requirement. The scroll is not particularly well draw and at distance appears to be a large argent rectangle, the scroll ends are not very well defined. Have suggested the submitter draw the ends larger and more rounded. Also, the chief should be drawn deeper

FROM THE CRUX -

Well, another month gone. I hope all of you had safe and happy journeys to and from Rowany Festival. Congratulations to Master Hrothgar on his elevation to the Order of the Pelican, and well done on stewarding this year's festival. It was also wonderful to see so many heralds working with their Majesties in the role of court herald.

There are a few points I want to raise relating to submissions. Firstly, hang the man who invented staples! Please do NOT staple your submissions together, they need to be immediately pulled apart and sent to different places. Paperclips are fine. Secondly, please do NOT use enlarged computer generated clip art to represent charges. These become pixillated and as such are not acceptable representations! In some cases it violates rules of Armorial Identifiabililty (RfS VII7.a) and will need to be returned. If you feel you can't draw the charges free hand, try enlarging your image and then tracing it by hand to produce a acceptable illustration. And lastly (for this month anyway!), please ensure when citing websites from the Academy of St Gabriel, and others, that you include copies of the pages used. In most cases, the front introduction page of the article and the relevant page will suffice.

Also, should anyone be unable to restrain themselves from sending pedantic grammatical comments relating to this, my second only newsletter, I should certainly appreciate it if you would direct your comments to myself personally at herald@sca.org . Let's not clutter up the Blazons list with complaints of typos please. I shall expect these concerns to be accompanied by your expression of interest in filling the position of Crux Australis Herald - or it will be the Wet Haddock of Impertinence for you!
