CAMEL, June 2016
Greetings unto the Kingdom from Crux Australis Principal Herald,
Being a herald is to constantly strive to improve in one’s pursuit of
the heraldic arts. But that does not mean that any of us are perfect.
This month brings news of a happy correction to a historical error with
the College of Arms correctly recording the registration of arms of the
College of St Crispin in April 2004.
So when you seek the services of a herald, remember that they too are
human, and can make mistakes. If one herald tells you that they don’t
think your submission is registrable, there is no harm in seeking a
second opinion or a second set of heraldic suggestions to help fit your
desires with the standards for registration.
And if your court herald fluffs a line or three in announcing the
Crown’s will, remember that it could be you up there speaking loudly in
public instead. If speaking loudly in public sounds like your kind of
fun, talk to your local herald about joining us!
Nevertheless, I am happy to lead a College with many more successes than
missteps, as testified by the list of heraldic registrations to
congratulate this month.
