CAMEL, October 2017
Unto the Heralds and Populace of Lochac, greetings.
If you’re confused, so am I. Two CAMELs in one month after missing one last month? Surely I could be more consistent? Well, as I’ve said before, I write these missives when the College of Arms release the Letters of Acceptance and Return. So, I guess the one planned for September (the July LoAR) was late. I hope you don’t mind … I’m sure the successful registrants are happy to find out!
You will notice an Kingdom Heraldic title this time: Quarrel Herald. This is the title I have had created for the Deputy responsible for the Lochac Roll of Arms. (LRoA, not to be confused with LoAR). Quarrel is another name for a type of crossbow bolt and continues the puntastic theme of Crux deputy titles since there are also always arguments about name and devices. I was rather proud of this one.
Being around the middle of my term as Crux, most of my deputies either are (or should be) looking for assistants/successors. There will be a more comprehensive missive about that soon … but in the meantime:
Canon Herald has informed me he will be seeking a deputy/successor. Interested in precedence and awards? Contact canon@lochac.sca.org
Powder Horn Herald has had attack of life (TM) and can’t continue in her role. This is a new role that backs up Rocket and Canon in managing the data within Canon Lore. If you have a records management/quality assurance bent, please contact me at herald@lochac.sca.org
The newly titled Quarrel Herald, Master William Castille, is looking for a deputy/successor. The official email address isn’t set up yet, so please contact me at herald@lochac.sca.org
The new role for overseeing the introduction of Silent Heralding to Lochac doesn’t have a title yet, and I keep meaning to call for applicants since I announced the intention to create the role at Festival. Stop me being slack! If you would like to help establish this role, please contact me at herald@lochac.sca.org
Mortar Herald, long serving and patient, would like to know if there’s anyone in the Kingdom with the IT skills to manage our heraldic IT needs. I’m not completely sure of the requirements, but if you’re good with databases and online content management, that’s likely a start. Contact mortar@lochac.sca.org for more on the requirements of this role.
Change and renewal are scary, but also exciting. I want to see new faces and fresh ideas … and there is a lot of support in these roles. It’s a good way to get some experience at the Kingdom level without the pressure of a Kingdom Office. Please consider applying.
