CAMEL, January 2024
Greetings and welcome to the January edition of the CAMeL with the LoAR
for November.
Registrations are:
- [1] Angharad Rheged. Name change from Florie Attewood and device
change (see PENDS for badge change). Vert, a chevron and in chief three
cinquefoils argent.
The submitter’s previous name, Florie Attewood, is released.
The submitter’s previous device, Vert, a winged stag segreant and on a chief
argent three thistles vert, is released.
- [2] Gaylord of Saint Monica. Name (see PENDS for device).
Saint Monica is the registered name of an SCA branch.
- [3] Muireach Mac Gréine. Device. Per chevron azure and sable, three
roses argent and a sun Or.
This device was pended for redraw on the July 2023 LoAR to draw the
roses in their default arrangement. Quarterstaff provided new artwork
which the submitter approved.
- [4] Rúnfríðr Keiliselgr. Release of alternate name Rachel of Saint
Monica.
Pending:
Angharad Rheged. Badge change. (Fieldless) A rabbit sejant reguardant
contourny argent.
This badge is pended to redraw the rabbit as clearly sejant. As drawn,
commenters were split as to whether it was sejant or statant.
If accepted, the submitter’s previous badge, Per fess vert and argent,
a thistle counterchanged, is to be released.
- [5] Gaylord of Saint Monica. Device. Argent, a chaplet of thorns gules
and overall a cross of Santiago sable.
This device is pended for redraw to enlarge the cross so its arms extend
past the edges of the chaplet. As submitted the cross is barely overall.
Returns:
Ollivier Le Floch. Badge. Per pale argent and gules.
This badge is returned for conflict with the device of Clara Masen,
Per pale argent and Or. There is a single DC for changing the tincture of
half the field.
Errata letter had the following:
MAY 2022
Rúnfríðr Keiliselgr. Name change from Rachel of Saint Monica.
When their name was registered, the LoI neglected to note this was a
name change. The previous name, Rachel of Saint Monica, was retained
as an alternate persona name.
- [6] FROM LAUREL: A NEW LEAF!
The time has come to turn over my office. I am pleased to announce that
the Board of Directors has, with my blessing, accepted Birgitta Lulli as
the next Laurel Queen of Arms. Birgitta is well known to many of us as
she has been a member of the College of Arms since 1996. A member of the
Order of the Pelican, she has also been Pelican King of Arms and twice
Schwarzdrachen Principal Herald, among many other offices!
The formal change of office will take place at the next quarterly Board
Meeting, which happens to also be the weekend of vKWHSS in January. Her
formal introduction will be on next month’s Cover Letter.
- [7] FROM LAUREL: KWHSS 2025 BIDS REQUESTED
For those considering bidding on the 2025 Known World Heraldic and
Scribal Symposium, the deadline to have your bid entered into OSCAR is
June 1, 2024. This deadline may be extended as needed, but we would
prefer to be able to announce the bid’s award sooner than later.
Please remember that bids posted to OSCAR are publicly readable. Because
of this, any personal information, such as legal names, addresses, phone
numbers, and email, should not be included in these bids without signed
written permission. Such information as is necessary for the entire
College of Arms to see should be posted as a comment after the bid is
finalized; any identifying information that the Sovereigns might need
should be included as a Sovereign Note.
Please send a copy of the full unredacted bid to Laurel at
laurel(a)heraldry.sca.org.
As a reminder, there is a KWHSS domain and web hosting space available
on the SCA’s servers. Please do not register a new domain.
There is some information available at https://heraldry.sca.org/kwhss/,
with new pages in the works but if you have questions before the updates
pages happen, please contact Laurel.
- [8] FROM PELICAN: NAHUATL ALTERNATE TITLES
The Nahuatl alternate titles list proposed on Palimpsest’s August 30th
Rules Letter is accepted with some changes. The updated list will be
available at https://heraldry.sca.org/titles.html within a few days. We
thank Kallinikos Gavras, Rouge Scarpe Herald for sharing his research
that led to the Rules Letter and Lillia de Vaux, Crampette Herald, for
her additional research shared during commentary.
- [9] FROM WREATH: SENA A5E5 – CHANGE OF POSTURE OF THE PRIMARY CHARGE
GROUP
Based on Palimpsest’s August 31st Rules Letter, a new section is added
to SENA A5E5 to address the difference in orientation/type between
ordinaries. The update will be available at
https://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#A5E5c within a few days.
I hope that you all had a wonderful and uneventful New Year and that
this year brings all that you deserve. I look forward to working with
you all and seeing as many of you as possible.
Yours in service
Isabella Crux
