CAMEL, March 2018
Unto the Heralds and Populace of Lochac, greetings.
I have been waiting a long time for this CAMEL. Not because it’s late (although it is a little – the LoAR only came out today and I had hoped to see it a lot sooner), but because of what I am announcing.
The Pursuivant Readiness Project is complete! For all the Macers out there who have been waiting patiently for a way to prove their skills are at the Pursuivant level, your patience has been rewarded!
I present to you: The Pursuivant Readiness Portfolio (“the portfolio”).
The portfolio is an 8 page document available as a form-fillable PDF. The first page is a “who are you” and introduction page. The last is the marker’s page. In between are three scenarios presented as case studies. Each case study is two pages and has six open answer questions. They cover the sort of thinks that heralds need to be able to deal with: court heralding, name and device registration; tournament heralding and announcements; and being a group herald. Pursuivants aren’t expected to know everything – they should be able to find out what they need, and this ‘open book’ project lets you use any resources to find out what you need.
Chaineshot Herald – currently Master Padraig Lowther – is my education and training deputy. He will be responsible for assessing any portfolios sent in for evaluation. He will make a recommendation to me and I will made a decision. After the decision is made, successful Macers will be promoted and that will be announced in that month’s CAMEL and then Chaineshot Herald will be in touch with feedback to successful and unsuccessful heralds alike.
At this time, I would like to thank Amanda Coffyn for all her hard work on this project – including working in my suggestions and last minute changes. I also thank the former Cruxes and other heralds who proofread and tested the portfolio.
To that end, I would like to announce at this time that the Honorable Lady Gabriella Borromei and Sir Jon Dai of the Lane have both been successful (as part of the testing) and are now promoted to the rank of Pursuivant in the College of Heralds. Huzzah!
If you would like to undertake the Pursuivant Readiness Project, the portfolio can be found here.
I look forward to announcing many more promotions. In the meantime, here are the registrations from the January 2018 LoAR (there were quite a few “nice”s this month):
