Camel, May 2018 (again)
Unto the Heralds and Populace of Lochac, greetings.
I feel that the last CAMEL should have been called “April” after all … and on the College of Heralds website it will now be found so. I could have tried to call this June – but what happens in 4 weeks when the next one occurs? Let us not borrow trouble – there’s enough to get on with as it is. This was a month for Getting Things Done (TM)!
Firstly, and most importantly, the Heralding Policy for the Lochac College of Heralds has been updated. This has been an ongoing process for some time and, in the last month or so, many heralds in the Kingdom have contributed to making it a better document. Some details have been changed, others explained better, while new information as also been added (specifically around what is a herald-in-charge and what they do). I urge all heralds to read the document at least once. It is not now “set in stone” … so if there are issues with it that you would like me to reconsider, please email me. The policy can be found here.
Since Festival last month, the new Kingdom ceremonies have been getting a work out – and from what I can tell they are generally well received. The old ceremonies were familiar and you can guess the “a-ha” moment when the Populace work out what award is being given. The new ceremonies have a different rhythm to things, and that’s still being discovered by the Populace. Personally, I like the emphasis on the history of the award that is given. If you want to read the new ceremonies, you can find them here.
The Lochac College of Heralds website is still undergoing a major overhaul. This means that links from other sites to the herald’s website might no longer work – if that’s the case, please contact the webminister of the site and have them contact me if they need to know the new location of any information. Nothing has been removed (as yet) but there’s a disorganised jumble called the “Archives” with most details that I haven’t re-organised. The rest of the site menus are based around a concept of an actual College – there’s the Noticeboard (news and these CAMELs), Administration (roster, forms, etc), Departments (links to other College-related sites), the Library (articles and documents – including ceremonies, policy, and notes from A&S classes). If there is something missing, please feel free to contact me.
It is pleasing to see in this month’s LoAR that the College of St Crispin’s device is registered and that the Canton of Torlyon now has a registered Populace Badge. I commend both groups and encourage all groups to register a populace badge – it’s not acceptable to use the group device without wreath and assume it’s the populace badge.
Finally, you will see below that the Kingdom now has registered a badge association for standard augmentation. This will enable members of the Populace to more easily register their Augmentation of Arms when the Crown bestows that honour. I wish to thank Rocket Herald for shepherding this through registration. There aren’t many Augmentations of Arms given in Lochac at this time … but we strive to make things easier when we can.
Here are the registrations from the March 2018 LoAR:
