Regarding the announcement about KWHSS 2020
Unto the College of Heralds, greetings.
Now that it has officially been announced at KWHSS, let me state officially: Lochac will be hosting the Known World Heraldic and Scribal Symposium (KWHSS) in 2020.
I have been in discussions with Mistress Juliana de Luna, Laurel Queen of Arms, and Baron Lachlahn Dunbar, Lochac Seneschal, about making this happen. Juliana Laurel had said that they would like to see a bid from Lochac but that more than the usual amount of notice should be given, if we wanted to bid, since it’s not US-local. 2020 was considered a good prospect, so we bid, and it was announced this year when 2019’s host was being named so that people could start planning.
At this moment, there is only an idea that has been proposed. I have not had discussions with the Kingdom Seneschal recently, so I will be circumspect in what I say at this time. I will say that the event will need to be near a direct flight international airport.
The goal is to showcase how awesome Lochac is – so I thought what better way than by attaching KWHSS to a Crown event? Preliminary scheduling discussions with Juliana Laurel have centred around Midwinter Coronation as late June/early July is the most convenient time for the most people, but this is by no means certain.
The model for this general idea was the Lochac Officer Training Symposium (LOTS) held in Politarchopolis just before 12th Night Coronation some time ago: have a conference in the lead-up to the Crown event so people will more likely go, and most likely go to both.
This is an event that I have wanted to see happen in Lochac since I knew the event existed at all. Having said that, I will not be Crux when it happens. I am conscious of the fact that this is no longer “my” pet project – this is at least equal to a Kingdom-level event and needs to be treated as such. Please allow me some time with our Kingdom Seneschal and Provost of Scribes to work out how we work out how this will work out.
Lochac, we get to show the Known World how we do things. This is an exciting opportunity and we have two years lead time to make it something that will be talked about long after, so we don’t need to rush just yet. I ask for your patience as we establish those critical first steps on this journey.
In service to the College of Heralds, and the Kingdom of Lochac, always.
