CAMEL, July 2018
Unto the Heralds and Populace of Lochac, greetings.
As I write this, there is still two days to apply to succeed me as Crux Australis Principal Herald. I would like to see more applicants, because I think the Kingdom is stronger when given choices. This is not to say that any applications received aren’t good enough … just that I feel there are people who would be an excellent candidate for Crux who have not applied. If we have several great applicants then we also have possible successors to my successor, or people who might well be excellent in a Crux Staff role that could be available soon. Please consider applying, but quickly – time is running out. Details on the role can be found here.
In other news, the cover letter for this month’s LoAR has an interesting note for those looking for non-gendered titles: “We approve _nobilis_ as a gender-neutral title in medieval Latin at the rank of an Award or Grant of Arms. This title was typically used after a given name, as in _Haroldus nobilis_.” Now, there’s more to the report, of course, but I want to encourage people to read the LoAR (although May isn’t there yet). This title is Latin, so doesn’t help a lot of people, but I mention it to show that the College of Arms is listening to the Society.
In the letter there is also mention of alternative titles in Estonian that were partly the work of our own ffride wlffsdotter. I add my thanks to that of the Pelican Sovereign of Arms (I might add for her continued hard work for the College of Arms and toward the glory and exquisite reputation of the Kingdom of Lochac).
Finally, I would like to announce that Rosalind Beaufort, currently Cinquefoil Herald, has successfully completed the Pursuivant Readiness Portfolio and is hereby promoted to the rank of Pursuivant in the College of Heralds. Huzzah!
In service to the Crown and Kingdom of Lochac, always.
Sorle Maknicoll
Crux Australis Principal Herald.
