(Proposed) New Submissions information page
This post sets out what is proposed as a replacement for the Submissions page on this website, including the Paper Submissions and Electronic Submissions pages. This page has been written by Rocket Herald, and is put out for commentary on content and format (not on the rules themselves) by Crux Australis. Please provide feedback to Crux Australis, by email or via the relevant post in the Lochac Heraldry Chat group on Facebook, before the end of September 2018.
The Kingdom of Lochac pays all costs in registering Heraldry. The registration of heraldry has a similar effect as copyrighting within the SCA. The process is long: a minimum of 6 months. We register Names, Devices, Badges, Household Names, Kingdom and Baronial Awards and Heraldic Titles.
Heraldic Submissions can be sent in via email or normal mail (PO Box 3407, Albury NSW 2640) to Rocket Herald. Submissions need to be sent via a rostered herald who is also registered on OSCAR.
While technology has advanced, our forms haven’t. With this in mind, normal mail submissions require the forms to be signed off by the client; emails simply need to be CC’d to the client as well. The requirement to send multiple forms is likewise dropped. Black and White copies for devices and badges are still required.
The rules we use for the registration of heraldic submissions can be found in one of 3 places: The Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory (SENA); the Administrative Handbook of the College of Arms of the Society for Creative Anachronism; and the Heralding Policy for the Lochac College of Heralds. The forms used for submission are: [Put the forms here].
Name submissions
The important things to remember with name submissions is you need to document each element of the name and the name as a whole. Unless your proof is from Appendix H of the Administrative Handbook of the College of Arms of the Society for Creative Anachronism (or specifically mentioned in on of the Letters of Acceptance and Returns) you will need to provide a copy of the proof with your submission. If you are quoting from a book, please include the page with the evidence and a copy of the title page. If you are using something from appendix H you still need to summarise the proof.
Rocket Herald needs to copy all text onto OSCAR. Please make their job easier, by including copy-able text with email submissions. If you are sending via normal mail please print clearly.
Baby name books and Wikipedia are not accepted as proof. If in doubt go to the Lochac Heraldry Chat group on Facebook for advice, or contact your group herald.
Device and Badge Submissions
Unlike with names, most device and badges don’t require documentation. The exceptions are: if you are registering a new charge; registering something that breaks the rules, via an individually attested pattern (IAP); or submitting permission to conflict. The thing to remember is you need to provide 2 forms: a colour copy and a line art black and white version (Think of a colouring book). The forms can’t be altered in anyway to fit your picture. If you don’t know the blazon (words that describe the emblazon/picture) don’t worry, do your best. We register the emblazon not the blazon.
If in doubt go to the Lochac Heraldry Chat group on Facebook for advice, or contact your group herald.
Changes due to Kingdom Commenting
If your herald is doing their job they will inform you of any issues raised at Kingdom Commenting. Any and all changes need to be sent with new forms! If changes are done in time they will be included when the letter advances.
Conflict Checks
Conflict checking is not easy so always get a second opinion, this applies to all heralds. If in doubt go to the Lochac Heraldry Chat group on Facebook for advice, or contact your group herald.
