CAMEL, March 2020
Unto the heralds and populace of the Kingdom of Lochac does Amanda Martel,
Crux Australis Principal Herald, send greetings.
Well, my friends. What a year this month has been. These are hard,
strange, and dramatic times for all of us, and I find myself short on any
words other than “take care of each other”.
As part of the response to the ongoing situation, I am sad to report the
sensible and necessary, but disappointing, decision that the in-person
events of the Known World Heraldry and Scribes Symposium, which was to
have brought crowds of heralds from throughout the Known World to our
doors, has had to be cancelled.
I understand that this is disappointment both for Lochac’s heralds, who
were looking forward to having our horizons expanded beyond the Kingdom’s
borders, and to the Known World’s heralds, who were looking forward to
meeting us all. Alas, both mundane legalities and just good health sense
must take priority.
While we will no longer be able to meet everyone in person, I am happy to
let you know that alternate online delivery for KWHSS classes and suchlike
is being looked into.

While the in-person loud parts of a herald’s work are on hiatus until
further notice, there are still a number of ways to get involved. Name and
armoury submissions, with the associated research, are mostly done
electronically anyway these days.
As to whether it’s a good idea to practice your tourney heraldry
projection alone in your back yard, I leave that up to you, and the
patience of your neighbours.
