CAMEL, May 2016
Greetings unto the Kingdom from Crux Australis Principal Herald,
Not even their Illustrious Majesties can hold back the turning of time,
and at November Crown in this fifty-first year of the Society, my tenure
as Crux Australis will come to a close.
Therefore, it is now time to seek a successor.
Crux Australis Principal Herald is a Greater Kingdom Officer with
responsibility for:
– Providing the Crown’s voice at events.
– The registration of names and armory.
– The maintenance of the Order of Precedence of Lochac.
– The providing of new ceremony.
– The devising of new protocol for Lochac subject to the Crown’s
approval.
In practice, the vast majority of this is achieved by the prodigious
assistance of group heralds and Kingdom deputies.
Prior heraldic experience is essential, but as with group herald roles,
there is no need to be good at all the heraldic arts, other than the Art
of Delegation.
A successful applicant will officially step up at November Crown (5-6
November) with handover occurring across October and November.
If you are interested in serving the Crown and Kingdom as Herald, please
email an application to both the Kingdom Seneschal at
seneschal@lochac.sca.org and myself at herald@lochac.sca.org. Please
include your membership number, mundane and SCA names, any relevant
heraldic experience, and your general experience in the SCA – as well as
outlining why you think you’d be suitable to the role. Appointment to
the role will be made at the pleasure of the Crown.
Being a Greater Kingdom Officer, there are some restrictions on who can
apply – for more info see the Lochac Procedures Manual, “Appointment of
Officers” at the link below:
http://lochac.sca.org/seneschal/docs/LochacOfficersProceduresManual20082015.pdf
If you have any questions regarding the role or anything heraldic, you
can as always send your missives to herald@lochac.sca.org.
With that announcement out of the way, we have the regular but no less
exciting congratulations to those who have registered heraldry this
month.
