Job Vacancies – April 2018
Unto the College of Heralds, and the Populace of Lochac, greetings.
Heralding in Lochac (as in all Kingdoms) is a collective effort that requires many hands to make light work. As Crux Australis, Principal Herald, the burden falls on my shoulders … but I delegate tasks to an impressive team who managed to make even me look good.
Currently there are several vacancies and some upcoming vacancies that need filling and I am calling for applications. Please read through the available positions below and if you are interested in any of the positions (or even more than one), then please email me with the following information:
- Your name (SCA and Mundane)
- The role(s) you are interested in
- Your experience (SCA and Mundane) that make you suitable for the role
- What your goals for the role are/will be
- Membership status (given the nature of the work, and access to personal information, some deputies are required to be members of either SCA Ltd or SCA NZ Inc.)
Open for application:
CANON HERALD (current Canon due to step down before May)
Canon Herald manages award, reign, and order of precedence records for the Kingdom. Court Heralds record the awards given by the Crown and these are passed to Canon who enters them into Canon Lore. Regular (daily/weekly) internet access, and an understanding of databases in required.
QUARREL HERALD (current Quarrel seeks a successor)
Responsible for managing the Lochac Role of Arms. Skills required include web development and graphic design. An understanding of blazoning is needed to interpret and create images for registered devices. Regular (monthly) internet access is needed.
POWDER HORN HERALD (currently vacant)
Works with Canon Herald and Rocket Herald to ensure all data on awards and registrations is stored accurately and properly. This role is still being developed and would suit someone with a records or data management background. This is a background role, but will be responsible for responding to FIXMEs sent in by people who have noticed an error in their Canon Lore record. Regular (daily/weekly) internet access is required.
MORTAR HERALD (currently vacant)
Responsible for managing the software and IT specifically used by the College of Heralds. Canon Lore is an online MySQL database. Expertise with databases is a must. Web development experience is highly desirable. The website front-end for Canon Lore needs a revamp. Mortar could also become responsible for the maintenance of (the non-content parts of) the Lochac Roll of Arms and College of Heralds websites (to be discussed) but that is not currently part of the role.
If you have further questions about what the role(s) entails, please contact the deputy or Crux for more information. Contact details can be found here.
All Crux Deputies are required to report biannually (in line with May and November Baronial reporting), need to be (or become) rostered heralds, and must follow all policies and direction established by Crux and published on the College of Heralds website. While in the middle of being updated, the current heraldic policy document can be found here.
In service to the Kingdom of Lochac and the College of Heralds,
Sorle Maknicoll
Crux Australis Principal Herald
