CAMEL, June 2019
Unto the heralds and populace of the Kingdom of Lochac does Amanda Martel, Crux Australis Principal Herald, send greetings.
Once again, Lochac’s heraldic commenters have been given special mention by the Sovereigns of Arms in the ongoing “Commendations to Commenters” section of the LOAR Cover Letter. Pelican has chosen our own Baron Stormhold for this month’s commendation.
“I wish to call attention this month to the many contributions of BrĂan dorcha ua Conaill. Gaelic is a highly specialized language, with rules and grammar that often confuse heralds and submitters. Both I and previous Pelicans would have been lost without Brian’s willingness to dig into primary sources and parse through the complicated construction rules on behalf of the many people who want Gaelic names. He should know how much his work is admired and appreciated.”

Of potential interest to a number of submitters is the new ruling on non-European fantastical flora and fauna. To translate it out of dense herald-speak, essentially the mythological and otherwise fictional plants and animals of the non-European cultures which Europe had contact with are now permitted, much as the mythological plants and animals of Europe are.
Of particular note is that this new rule overturns the controversial ban on the Chinese dragon for use in SCA heraldry.

A month and some on from the due date for the Lochac Heraldic Census, we have some 56 people currently on the roster who, by omission, tell me they’d like to be removed from the roster. If you haven’t filled out the Roster Details form this year, but you’d like to remain on the roster, please pop by the form at https://herald.lochac.sca.org/forms/roster-details/ as soon as possible.
I’ll be cleaning up the roster in mid July. If you get removed, and would like to be re-added, it’s as simple as filling out the above form when you’d like to be returned.

There were no submissions from the general populace of Lochac being considered in the meeting that led to this month’s Letter, just one badge for the Chinese branch (which is no longer under the auspices of Lochac).
The following items have been registered in Lochac on the April 2019 Letter of Acceptance and Response:
Lochac, Kingdom of. Badge. Gules, a Chinese dragon sejant within a bordure Or.

Yours in service to the Kingdom and Crown of Lochac,
